Systematic review and meta-analysis in atopic dermatitis, five studies: ceramide-containing moisturisers improved SCORAD against other moisturisers (mean difference -0.98, P=0.003). Transepidermal water loss was NOT significantly different (-3.56, P=0.17, high heterogeneity).

Indian J Dermatol, 2023Randomised, investigator-blinded, intra-individual comparison in patients with controlled atopic dermatitis: a ceramide-precursor moisturiser on one lower leg against the untreated other leg for 4 weeks gave greater reduction in transepidermal water loss and clinical dryness and higher hydration (all P<.01).
